Amazon.ie: opportunities to sell in Ireland from Europe

Amazon.ie already operates in Ireland. We analyze the opportunity for European brands and sellers, catalogue expansion, logistics, VAT and operational preparation.

Annunciation of Amazon's expansion to Ireland
Amazon announced Amazon.ie in 2025 and opened the Irish store on March 18, 2025.

In brief

Key ideas

  • Amazon.ie opened on March 18, 2025 with prices in euros, a local experience and more than 200 million products in its launch.
  • European sellers can manage Ireland from their European account and rely on tools such as European Expansion Accelerator and Build International Listings.
  • Replying offers is just the beginning: catalogue, prices, availability, logistics, care and profitability must be reviewed for the Irish market.
  • The inventory model determines fiscal and operational obligations; storage in Ireland does not have the same implications as selling remotely from another EU country.

Amazon.ie is the Amazon shop specifically directed to the Republic of Ireland. The platform opened on March 18, 2025 with prices in euros, deliveries and returns adapted to the country, a local Prime subscription and an announced selection of more than 200 million products.

For European brands and sellers, Ireland adds a market to Amazon’s trade structure in Europe. The opportunity is not only to activate another country: it requires deciding what catalogue to offer, where to serve it, how to set prices, what tax obligations are generated and whether demand allows to operate with profitability.

This article was originally published on December 1, 2024, when Amazon.ie was still an announced release. We have updated it to explain the already operational market and to differentiate the initial forecasts from the current situation.

From ad to operational market

Amazon announced in May 2024 that it was preparing a specific store for Ireland. Until then, many customers in the country were buying mainly from other European shops, especially Amazon.co.uk.

The opening of Amazon.ie introduced a localized experience for the Republic of Ireland:

  • Prices shown in euro.
  • Delivery and return organized for the Irish market.
  • No additional customs charges on the purchases applicable within the local experience announced by Amazon.
  • Access to the specific premium of Amazon.i.
  • Increased visibility for Irish brands and companies.

Ireland and the United Kingdom are different markets. Amazon.ie is addressed to the Republic of Ireland; Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom and requires separate analysis of destination, taxation and logistics.

The infrastructure of Amazon in Ireland is supported, among other elements, by the Dublin logistics centre opened in 2022.

What opportunity Amazon.ie offers

Access to local demand

A national store reduces friction for customers who want to buy in euros, better know the final cost and use an experience adapted to their country. For a seller, this improvement can increase the ability to convert a demand that they previously bought into other Amazon domains.

A new window for European brands

Ireland’s size should not be assessed in isolation; it can function as an extension of an already consolidated European operation, as a test market for certain categories or as part of a coordinated strategy between the United Kingdom and the European Union.

Commercial diversification

Adding a market can reduce the dependence of a single country, but it also introduces complexity. Expansion makes sense when the additional margin compensates for the costs of catalogue, transport, returns, campaigns, compliance and management.

Who should consider expansion

Amazon.ie may be particularly relevant for:

  • Trademarks already sold in one or more European Amazon stores.
  • Manufacturers with a catalogue compatible with European Union rules.
  • Companies with demand or prior distribution in Ireland.
  • Sellers able to serve orders from the EU with competitive time frames.
  • Operations that can maintain stock, prices and care in a coordinated manner.

The technical possibility of creating offers does not ensure that all products must be activated. References with probable demand, sufficient scope, complete documentation, stable availability and viable return management should be prioritized.

How to expand the catalogue to Amazon.ie

Amazon presents its European stores as part of a common European seller account. An existing seller can review Ireland from Central Seller and use different tools to expand its presence.

European Expansion Accelerator

European Expansion Accelerator allows you to select markets and automate part of the preparation: creation of offers, price configuration, shipping templates and certain logistics programs.

In offers managed by the seller itself, Amazon indicates that new publications may initially become inactive and the destination shop in holiday mode. Before they are activated, you have to review prices, catalogue, account configuration and transport.

Build International Listings

Build International Listings, known as BIL, connects a home store to one or more destination shops. According to Amazon’s current documentation, you can:

  • Create offers when ASIN itself already exists in both shops.
  • Try to translate and create product pages on the destination market.
  • Synchronize prices according to the rules defined by the seller.
  • Regular adjustment of prices when a currency exchange is involved.
  • Add or withdraw eligible offers when changing the source catalogue.

BIL reduces repetitive work, but does not replace the review. A correct translation may not be the best commercial message, an automatic rule may not cover all costs and an eligible ASIN may not make sense for Ireland.

The expansion must be designed from order to delivery, return and economic reconciliation.

What to review after synchronizing

Selection and content

The English used must be clear for the Irish market and the technical or commercial terminology must be maintained for each category.

Final price and margin

The price must include VAT, commission, logistics, storage where appropriate, returns, advertising, promotions and product cost. It is also necessary to set limits so that an automatic rule does not destroy any margin when responding to changes in price or currency.

Stock and availability

A new store increases the points where the same inventory can be sold. It is necessary to decide which system keeps the master stock and how breakdowns, cancellations or oversales are avoided when Amazon, its own ecommerce and other marketplaces are involved.

Attention and return

The response times, the return address and the incident procedure must be prepared before the offer is activated. The customer experience influences both the conversion and the health of the account.

Choose the logistic model

Own-management

The seller stores, prepares and sends orders. It offers control, but it requires to maintain time limits, monitoring, returns and competitive costs for Ireland. Before activating the catalogue, the shipping templates and the promise of actual delivery must be checked.

Amazon Logistics

With FBA, Amazon manages storage, preparation, delivery, logistics and returns within the program conditions. The rates and location of the inventory depend on the configuration used.

Authorizing storage in another country is an operational and fiscal decision, not a simple transport option. Amazon can move inventory between centres when the seller participates in certain European programmes and enables storage countries.

Test model

A brand can start with a limited catalogue and a cross-border model, measure demand and then study whether it is appropriate to maintain local inventory or to expand selection. The decision should be based on margin, volume, level of service and obligations generated.

VAT: selling at a distance is not storage in Ireland

Taxation depends on where the company is established, where the inventory is located, from which country it is sent, who imports the goods and what compliance model it uses.

For intra-Community B2C sales, the European Union sets a joint threshold of EUR 10,000 under certain conditions.

The storage of goods in Ireland may require an Irish VAT number and local declarations, even when the company is established in another Member State. Import from outside the EU, transfer stocks or use FBA programmes may add different requirements.

It is therefore appropriate to review the model with a tax adviser before authorizing storage or changing the logistical flow. Amazon also warns that its educational information does not replace professional advice.

Product, labelling and compliance

An active offer in Central Seller alone does not demonstrate that the product can be legally marketed in Ireland. Companies must review, depending on the category:

  • General product safety and traceability.
  • Identification of the applicable manufacturer, importer or economic controller.
  • Marking, instructions, warnings and labelling.
  • Category restrictions and documentation requested by Amazon.
  • Intellectual property and authorization to sell third-party marks.
  • Environmental and extended producer liability obligations.
  • Consumer rights, guarantees and returns.

Since 13 December 2024, the General Regulation on Product Safety has strengthened the consumer product obligations offered in the European Union, also on online channels. The review should be done by reference and category, not only at the account level.

Catalogue, inventory, orders and logistics must be coordinated between Amazon and internal systems.

Preparation plan for Amazon.ie

  1. Assess the market: demand, competition, price, reviews and availability by category.
  2. Choose the initial catalogue: prioritizing cost-effective, documented and easy-to-serve products.
  3. Review the European account: company data, verification, charges, permissions and account health.
  4. Create or connect offers: use Seller Central, BIL, European Expansion Accelerator or integration according to volume.
  5. Validate the content: English, attributes, variants, images, instructions and regulatory data.
  6. Define prices: include all costs and protect the margin with rules and limits.
  7. Choose logistics: own management, FBA or a progressive model by service and taxation.
  8. Prepare attention and return: responsible, time, messages and valid addresses.
  9. Configure advertising and promotions: only when catalogue, availability and measurement are prepared.
  10. Measure the actual result: sales, returns, investment, commissions, logistics, taxes and margin.

Indicators to decide whether to scale

  • Sessions and conversion rate by ASIN.
  • Position and percentage of the FATURID Offer.
  • Organic sales and attributable to advertising.
  • Total advertising cost on sales.
  • Commissions and logistical cost per unit.
  • Incidences, cancellations and returns.
  • Delivery time and service level.
  • Contribution margin after all costs.

Sales volume is not enough. An expansion can grow while losing profitability if no rates, campaigns, returns and operational costs are integrated into the analysis.

Common errors

  • Activate the entire catalogue without prioritizing.
  • Trust in automatic translation without reviewing the message and attributes.
  • Copy the price of another market without recalculating VAT, logistics and commissions.
  • Enable storage in Ireland without prior analysis of the tax impact.
  • To merge the Republic of Ireland with Northern Ireland.
  • Launch advertising before securing stock, content and conversion.
  • Manage Amazon.ie as an isolated account of the ERP, PIM or ecommerce.
  • Measure income without any return, advertising and margin.

How Sitelicon can help you

At Sitelicon we help manufacturers and brands decide, prepare and operate their expansion in Amazon. We can analyze the Irish market, select the catalogue, structure lists, prices and campaigns, coordinate logistics and build a cost-effectiveness control table.

We also develop integration through the Amazon’s Selling Partner API to connect catalog, stock, orders and sales with ERP, ecommerce, PIM, CRM and Business Intelligence. Thus, Amazon.ie is incorporated into a common operation rather than becoming another manually managed channel.
