The new Search Console Insights: from SEO data to better decisions

How to use integrated Search Console Insights to understand performance, content and opportunities without losing business context.

Insights simplifies the first reading; decisions still require segmentation and business context.

In brief

Key ideas

  • Google integrated Search Console Insights into the main Search Console interface on 30 June 2025.
  • The report combines clicks, impressions, content and queries in accessible trends.
  • Data should be connected to intent, visit quality and conversion.
  • Insights is an entry point, not a replacement for the Performance report.

On 30 June 2025 Google announced that Search Console Insights was integrated into the main Search Console interface. The report offered an accessible performance summary: total clicks and impressions, leading content, pages trending up or down and queries bringing users to the site.

It gave creators, communication teams and small businesses an easier way to understand content without first building an advanced report. Ease of reading, however, does not remove the need for interpretation.

Questions Insights can answer

The report starts practical conversations. Which pages attract the most organic visits? Which content is beginning to grow? What has lost clicks or impressions? Which queries are new? Which topics sustain performance and which depend on one spike?

Achievements and trends point to changes worth investigating. The value is not celebrating a number; it is deciding what happens next.

Clicks and impressions are different

An impression means a result appeared. A click means someone chose to visit. More impressions with fewer clicks may reflect a different position, a less suitable query, changes in the results page or an answer satisfied without a visit. Fewer clicks can coexist with more conversions if visitors are better qualified.

Connect Search Console with analytics and outcomes: enquiries, sales, registrations, calls or meaningful actions. The final question is not which article attracts the most traffic, but which helps the user and the business.

Turn a trend into a task

When a page grows, inspect its queries, check that it answers them well and strengthen relevant internal links. The pattern may reveal an opportunity for a service page, guide, comparison or related question.

When performance declines, do not automatically update the date or add purposeless copy. Check demand, competition, intent, technical health, cannibalisation and offer changes. The right action may be improvement, consolidation, redirection or accepting seasonality.

The full report still matters

Insights summarises; Performance lets teams filter by query, page, country, device, appearance and period. Regular expressions and comparisons separate branded demand, product families and journey stages.

A practical workflow has four steps: detect an opportunity in Insights, segment it in Performance, connect it to behaviour and conversion, then create an action with an owner and review date. Without the last step, the dashboard becomes another screen with no consequence.

Generative experiences expanded the length and variety of queries in 2025. Search Console remained essential for seeing organic demand, although it could not describe every brand appearance inside generated answers. Combine it with thematic coverage, brand mentions, conversions and controlled checks in search engines and assistants.

Sitelicon uses Search Console inside a decision system: technical diagnosis, intent, content, links, experience and outcomes. Insights lowers the entry barrier; advantage comes when an observation becomes a verifiable improvement.
